20 Jun Flights to and from China starting
Flights lift off the China
China Eastern Airlines is planning to initiate nonstop, twice weekly service between Shanghai and Honolulu starting on August 9, 2011. This is will be the first flights to the islands from the world’s most populous country. Hawaii Tourism Authority estimates that the new flights will generate up to $60 million in annual visitor spending and stimulate new growth to the Islands. This could end up being what the Japan market was in the 80’s and 90’s and an incredible boost to the tourism industry. Prior to this travelers from China were routed through Japan and Korea. Shanghia is a major Asian hub and this will generate visitors from all over China and parts of Asia that will utilize this route. We don’t know how many of these visitors will make it to the outer islands but it’s a start.
