11 May When it rains, its pours here on Kauai
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flash flood watch for Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai and Lanai through Tuesday afternoon.
Rain blanketed parts of the state throughout the weekend.
The conditions over the islands are unstable. With the ground being saturated by the weekend’s rains, that could easily lead to runoff and flash flooding, forecasters said.
The Department of Education closed Hanalei Elementary School Monday because of the closure of Hanalei Bridge. The bridge and Kuhio Highway were reopened later in the day.
24-Hour Rainfall Totals as of 5 p.m. Monday:
Hanalei River 7.04 inches
Mount Waialeale 5.58 inches
North Wailua Ditch 5.57 inches
Kapahi 4.66 inches
Punaluu Stream 2.70 inches
Kauai County officials said there have been reports of mudslides and falling rocks on some roadways in Kapaa and Kalaheo.
Not to mention thunder and lightening every night for 4 nights. Isn’t it amazing we can get more rain in one day that some states get all year. Sun is finally out today and I hope it stays that way.
Without rain, we wouldn’t have rainbows.
