23 Jun Tourism up in Poipu
Good news for homeowners that do vacation rentals here in Poipu!! Visitors arrival continue to increase. In March alone there was more than an 8% increase in travelers over last year. The increase is expected to continue through the Easter Break. Arrivals from Canada increased 16% and air travel through May is expected to increase 8% from the same period in 2009. Kauai Visitor Bureau Executive Director Sue Kanoho has a $1 million visitor industry stimulus which encompasses money spent on wholesalers like Pleasant Holiday, Expedia and Travelocity, trade shows and a kamaaina campaign encouraging inter-island travel and spending. It seems to be working. We are seeing more of the value minded travelers right now that want a good deal, to cook some o f their own meals, and take advantage of all activity promotions.
Sales in our office have been up more than 100% over this time last year. We are getting buyer walking back in the door. We are not out of the woods yet but there is light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not the train.
